The Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF) is the fifth largest Shakespeare
festival in the world and attracts more than 200,000 visitors annually from all 50 states and more than 60 countries.
The $21.5 million Carolyn Blount Theatre, built in 1983, houses the 750 seat Festival Stage and the 225
seat Octagon Stage, plus production shops, rehearsal halls, and administrative workspaces. More than one million bricks were
used in building the 100,000 square foot structure.Schoolfest, ASF's widely acclaimed student matinee program, entertains and educates more than 50,000 school children from across the Southeast each season. In conjunction with the University of Alabama, the complex also houses the Master of Fine Arts programs in acting, stage management, and theatre administration. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is
the oldest fine arts museum in the state of Alabama. The Museum's magnificent facility provides spacious, light-filled galleries and breathtaking
vistas for one of the southeast's premier art resources. Housed within the Museum is the Blount Collection, an outstanding array of 19th and 20th
century American paintings. Masterpieces by John Singleton Copley, John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer and others illustrate the
development of American painting.Other of the 3,000 works in the permanent collection include some of the finest examples of works on paper by such incomparable 15th through 20th century masters as Durer, Rembrandt, Picasso and Whistler. The museum is rich in works by Southern artists and contains 18th century Worcester Porcelain and 19th century Chinese export wares in the Decorative Arts Gallery.
